Michelle began her dancing career as a young ballerina, but it wasn’t until she discovered belly dance that her passion for dancing was truly sparked. She met her first teacher, Shawn Prychitko, in 1999 and studied and performed folkloric and tribal styles in South Mississippi, and later she focused on Oriental and Persian dance with Audrey Elizabeth in New Orleans. After moving to Santa Fe in 2005, Michelle was led to her current teacher, Deborah Newberg, and her dream of performing belly dance was manifested through the creation of the Saltanah Dancers. She is inspired and influenced by many dance styles, including Latin Salsa, Brazilian Samba, and Bollywood. Michelle is ever fascinated with feeling and expressing empowerment through movement, and she enjoys teaching this concept not only through dance but therapeutic horseback riding as well. She is also a fierce advocate for instinctive mothering and the sacred feminine, and is the proud mom of two young children.
